Building the Buildings

Have you ever thought about the fact that we call physical structures "buildings" — and we also call the act of creating those structures "building?" We actually like the dual meaning of the word "building" in this case. It highlights just how much work really goes into creating these structures. Putting up even a small building is not a weekend project. It's a huge endeavor for those in the construction industry. There's a lot of coordination and planning that has to happen before the contractors can even begin working. With that being said, we hope you enjoy reading about building here. And yes, we mean both physical buildings and the act of building.

Roofing: 5 Risks A Roofer Can Identify During An Inspection

You may be familiar with building inspections, but a roofing inspection is different. A roofing inspection is a specialized type of building inspection. It is designed to uncover any problems with the roof and the attic. A roofing inspection is important because it can help you avoid costly repairs in the future. A skilled roofer can identify emerging problems during an inspection, allowing you to get ahead of them with timely repairs. It saves money and ensures safety for the building's occupants. What are some of the danger signs a roof inspection points out?

1. Sagging Roof

A sagging roof is not just unsightly. It also indicates that a major structural problem exists in the roof's frame. A sagging roof indicates that the roof is not adequately supported. It can come from various factors, from faulty framing to insufficient support beams. A sagging roof is a big red flag. It can be a sign that the entire frame needs to be replaced.

2. Cracking

Cracks in a roof are a major danger to the structural integrity of the building. They can be caused by different factors, including poor installation or age. Cracks in flat commercial roofing lead to leaks and weakening of the roof. Any cracks should be identified and fixed immediately.

3. Leaks

Leaks in your roof are not only annoying, but they can also cause serious damage to your commercial property. A leaky roof indicates a problem with the roofing system, for example, holes in a metallic roof. Leaks can happen because of different factors, from defective roofing material to improper installation. A roofer can identify the source of the leaks and fix them before the damage becomes too extensive and expensive.

4. Slumped Gutters

Gutters channel water away from the building to prevent damage to the structure. However, if the gutters are not properly connected to the roof, water can get onto the exterior surfaces of the wall. It can cause damage, including paint damage and structural damage over time. A roofer can identify guttering problems and fix them before the gutter collapses.

5. Persistent Damp Spots

Commercial roofing sometimes suffers moisture problems because of its flat pitch. If you notice persistent damp spots on the roof's underside, it could mean that there are leaks or moisture problems. A roofer can identify the source of the moisture and fix the problem.
